CivTech Sprints are an extension of our Innovation Flow model

Sprints follow the same basic development stages (set out below) offering contracts over stages for the development of a new product to solve a Challenge. However a CivTech Sprint it is not delivered as part of a ‘cohort’ of challenges and timescales can be tailored to suit Challenge Sponsor requirements. Tailoring can include significantly reducing the time taken for each stage where appropriate.

The four stages of a Sprint Challenge

Stage 1

Open Call and Selection: 4–6 Weeks

CivTech Team supported Public Contract Scotland advertisement, scoring and shortlisting of proposals.

Stage 2

Exploration Stage: 1–2 Weeks

  • Working with 3 companies to explore and develop initial submissions.

  • Contracts of £5,000 + VAT per company.

  • Final Pitch Interview to select Companies for next stage.

Stage 3

MVP Development Stage: 6–12 weeks

  • Working with 1 company to develop initial submission into Minimum Viable Product.

  • Contract of £25,000 +VAT per company.

Stage 4

Pre-commercial Stage: Subject to challenge requirements

  • Bespoke pre-commercial agreement of the development of product to a commercially viable solution (within contract limits and budget constraints).

  • Based on principle of royalty fee license for Challenge Sponsor.

The key difference between a CivTech Challenge and a CivTech Sprint is that where the CivTech cohorts offer an Accelerator Stage with a full programme of workshops across product and business development and direct coaching, CivTech Sprint participants will have an MVP Development Stage that focuses on product development and is more limited in terms of workshops business support (however they will still have access to certain key workshop materials and a selection of direct support from workshop providers).
